Tropical Storm Debby

Historic rainfall from Tropical Storm Debby could lead to dangerous flooding. The rain will likely bring dangerous flooding, including flash floods, urban floods and potential storm surges.

Tropical Storm Debby doused the Grand Strand with heavy rains and winds Tuesday, causing flash flooding in some areas.

More rain is expected Wednesday, along with possible tornadoes and storm surge through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Some areas received 2 to 5 inches of rainfall Tuesday and an additional 4 to 9 inches is possible Wednesday into Thursday, according to NWS.

Residents took to social media Tuesday to report the impact of Debby.

Homeowners in Royal Estates in Little River posted photos of flooded yards, including one yard that had water deep enough for a kayak.

North Myrtle Beach and the Cherry Grove area have seen flooding. People reported backyards being flooded from the rainfall, as well as at the bottom of homes.

Some areas have yet to see flooding. An early morning shot Wednesday of Main Street in North Myrtle Beach showed no water after Tuesday’s rains.

Residents on Facebook groups have been communicating with each other on where water and flooding has taken place.

Conway saw flooding Tuesday in several areas. Conway police have urged residents to be careful of flooded streets and not to try to drive through water.

Video was taken of the flash flooding at Main and Boundary streets Tuesday that resulted in a vehicle being stuck in the flood waters and a person being rescued.

Murrells Inlet saw flooding and damage in several areas. Photos showed flooding in the parking lot of the former Inlet Mall that reached the sign.

It also appears that boaters are having difficulty on the waters Wednesday morning. A boat can be seen floating adrift near the Veterans Pier in Murrells Inlet.

Surfers have taken advantage of the waves that the storm has caused, taking to the ocean.

Other residents have also tried to make the best of the storm and flooding by walking on the beach and taking to the streets.
