Areas of North Myrtle Beach and Cherry Grove have begun to flood and roads are being closed as a result of Tropical Storm Debby.

Most of the intersections from 9th Avenue North to 17th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard are flooded. Cones have been put up to stop people from driving the roads. The intersection of 13th Avenue South has also flooded.

The houses on the north side did not have visible exterior damage, but excess water pooled in many yards.

Tropical Storm Debby is expected to dump an additional 4 to 9 inches of rain in the Myrtle Beach area. From 8 a.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Wednesday, the Cherry Grove area got over 6 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

North Myrtle Beach spokesperson Lauren Jessie said city officials are most concerned about flooding along Ocean Boulevard and areas around 11th Avenue North and 11th Avenue South.
