Animal Tales | All about Sweet Pea

We adopted Sweet Pea from the Grand Strand Humane Society in August of 2006. I was walking dogs as a volunteer and came across a scruffy, smelly, little dog that had been picked up by Animal Control. Despite her disheveled appearance, it was love at first sight!

Animal Tales | All about Mandi and Sammie

These two beauties are loving and dedicated maltipoos, half brother and sister and are our constant companions. Mandi is pure white, eight years old, and rules the roost as the alpha dog; Sammie is a black, subservient five-year-old and is quite the little gentleman. They are the best of friends. Sammie never lets Mandi go outside without his constant attendance; also leading her back inside. They have a limited vocabulary and commute their thoughts to us every day. When Mandi is corrected for doing wrong, she pouts just a few feet away, turned toward the opposite wall (dunce-like) until the problem is solved. She then truly smiles. They love being bathed and groomed and their more than 200 outfits are worn daily with pride (one at a time each). The stories and routines keep us constantly entertained. We count our blessings each day and thank the Lord for bringing them into our lives.

Around the Forest | Restaurant owner a role model for giving back

It doesn’t happen often that a small-business man can make such a big impact on so many groups of people in a community. But, in Carolina Forest, we are fortunate to have one such person that does just that, Bob Chrushch, who bought Beef O Brady’s two years ago.

Many migrants flittering through Myrtle Beach area

As the bird breeding season moves into full swing, a number of migrants continue to make their way into and through our area. Good numbers of shorebirds have been observed at Huntington Beach State Park of late, including semipalmated, least and stilt sandpipers, dunlin, short-billed dowitcher, ruddy turnstone and black-bellied and semipalmated plovers. Several wood storks continue to be reported from the freshwater pond alongside the causeway.

Animal Tales | All about Colby, Bear and Diego

These are my babies. The black and white one is Colby and he is seven years old. We named him Colby because he looks like the Colburg cow (black and white). His nickname is Bean. The pomeranian is Bear and he is eight years old. We named him Bear because he looks like a little bear. I nicknamed him Small and Little because he is so small and most of him is just fluffy fur. The chihuahua is Diego and he is three years old. His nickname is Nut Head because he acts real nutty.
