“What’s better than a rooster?” Comedian pokes fun at Coastal Carolina mascot
While fans cheer on the Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers and its quest for the College World Series title in Omaha, one internet comedian seized an opportunity to get some laughs.
Josh Mancuso, an online personality who goes by “The College Mascot Guy,” is known for posting short, comedic skits online about how various teams chose their unique mascots.
This weekend, it was the Chanticleers’ turn to be in on the joke.
In the video, Mancuso portrays three characters debating what mascot to assign the school. One character mentions that the University of South Carolina’s mascot is the Gamecocks and asks, “What’s better than a rooster?”
“Not much,” another replies.
One member of the “trio” explains that the Chanticleer mascot pays homage to The Nun’s Priest’s Tale by Geoffrey Chaucer, which popularized the tale of “Chanticleer and the Fox” in Britain during the late 14th century.
When one character asks how the Chanticleer is different from a Gamecock, another explains that “it’s a much fancier rooster.”
The Chanticleers will compete in game two of the College World Series Finals against Louisiana State University on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game may be watched on ABC.
A third round will be played on Monday at 7:30 p.m. if necessary, and will be broadcast on ESPN.
