Funny video of Myrtle Beach girl trying to run away goes viral on TikTok
Elizabeth Russo has learned the hard way her 6-year-old daughter Paisley Russo is not always bluffing.
At the beginning of May, Paisley Russo got mad at her mom, packed her bags and informed her mother she was running away. Elizabeth Russo started to film the funny moment but realized she had to intervene when the child began walking up to their neighbor’s home.
“I try to let Paisley do her own thing,” Elizabeth Russo said. “She walked up to neighbors driveway, ready to knock on the door. That’s when I stopped recording and started talking to her.”
The new Myrtle Beach resident posted the video on TikTok, where the video got more than six million views and was featured in People.
Elizabeth Russo said she moved to Myrtle Beach on a whim in mid-April. Her mother was planning a move to the Grand Strand from New Hampshire and Elizabeth Russo decided to join her.
Paisley Russo has done great with the move, but as an autistic child, her former therapist warned Elizabeth Russo she may act out more.
A few weeks ago, Paisley Russo was playing when Elizabeth Russo told her to come eat dinner. When the child refused, Elizabeth Russo said she could either eat dinner or sit quietly in her room, so Paisley Russo went to her room. That’s when she began her plan to run away.
“She came out with two huge bags and a duffel bag and said, ‘I’m going to find a new family that is going to let me do whatever I want,’” Elizabeth Russo said.
Wanting to give Paisley Russo a chance to work through her emotions, Elizabeth Russo stood back and let her leave, keeping a close eye on the child. She also pulled out her phone and started recording the short clip that then took off on TikTok.
Elizabeth Russo watched Paisley Russo cross the street and, as she began walking up the neighbors driveway, realized her daughter actually planned on knocking on the neighbor’s door. Wanting to make sure this was not the way she met her neighbors for the first time, Elizabeth Russo ran over, talked to Paisley Russo, offered a small bribe, and brought her home.
Paisley Russo eventually calmed down and ate dinner. While getting ready for bed, she told her mom, “I would never want another mama. I do love you.”
Elizabeth Russo then showed her daughter the video and Paisley Russo gave her mom permission to share it online. From there, it got over 1.4 million likes and 3,000 comments.
A follow-up video showed what Paisley Russo packed. Highlights include a Bible, mismatched shoes, countless stuffed animals and roller blades — although she does not know how to skate.
This is not the first time Paisley Russo’s dramatics have gotten her attention online. Last November, Elizabeth Russo posted a video of Paisley Russo singing Jelly Roll’s “I Am Not Okay” by herself in her room.
The video caught Jelly Roll’s attention and he commented “Maybe the best video ever lol.” This story took off, with Good Morning America running a segment and People also writing a story.
When asked why Elizabeth Russo thinks these videos get millions of views, she said it’s all Paisley Russo.
“It’s just her. She has such an outgoing and vibrant personality. She loves making friends,” Elizabeth Russo said. “Social anxiety fears her.”
