Update: Freightliner kills pedestrian near Carolina Forest. Victim named
A Freightliner tanker truck and other possible cars struck and killed a pedestrian along U.S. 501.
The truck was driving south on U.S. 501 at about 5:50 a.m. on April 10, while Amanda Hewitt, 38, was on the roadway, said Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The truck hit Hewitt near Legends Drive in the Carolina Forest area.
The Conway woman died on scene, wrote Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard in an email. The truck driver was not injured.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is looking for other vehicles that may have been involved in the crash, according to a social media post from the organization.
“The vehicles may have ran over the pedestrian after the initial collision and have biological material located on the undercarriage,” the post said.
Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the crash while the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating with assistance from Horry County Police.
