Here’s what’s closed or postponed as Hurricane Dorian moves toward the Carolinas

With evacuation orders issued as the Carolinas prepare for Hurricane Dorian’s imminent arrival, several stores and businesses along the Grand Strand are shutting their doors.

Hurricane Dorian, which is currently a Category 2 storm, is on track to make its closest approach to South Carolina by Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The Myrtle Beach area could get up to 7.45 inches of rainfall, according to the NWS. Conditions will worsen through Wednesday, peaking Thursday and gradually improving Friday, the NWS reports. Northeast South Carolina is expected to see tropical-storm-force winds Wednesday night, and any hurricane-force winds that happen would be Thursday, the NWS reports.

Closures as of Wednesday. This list will be updated as more closings are announced:

Schools:

  • Horry County Schools
  • Georgetown County Schools
  • Coastal Carolina University
  • Horry Georgetown Technical College

Grocery Stores:

  • All Lowes Foods in Horry and Georgetown counties are closed Thursday.
  • CVS Pharmacy in Surfside Beach
  • Krogers in North Myrtle Beach closed Tuesday and plan to reopen Friday.
  • Piggly Wiggly in Myrtle Beach closed Tuesday with a tentative reopening Friday.
  • Publix stores across the Strand will close at 10 p.m. Wednesday and reopen Friday.

Businesses

  • Broadway at the Beach: Will close Wednesday and remain closed until the storm has passed.
  • Barefoot Landing: Will close Wednesday and remain closed until the storm has passed.
  • Top Golf: Will close Wednesday and reopen Friday at noon.
  • Tanger Outlets Myrtle Beach Hwy 17 and 501
  • Coastal Grand Mall closed Tuesday
  • Brookgreen Gardens
  • Damon’s Oceanfront restaurant
  • Tin Roof with tentative reopening Friday.
  • Banditos Cantina
  • RipTydz is closed until Friday.
  • Wicked Tuna, Myrtle Beach
  • King Street Grille will close Wednesday with a tentative reopening Friday.
  • Old Time Pottery
  • Myrtle Beach Spine Center will close Thursday and reopen Monday.
  • Grand Strand Humane Society
  • Family Kingdom is closed until Sunday.
  • All South Atlantic Bank’s in the Grand Strand closed at 2 p.m. Wednesday and will reopen Friday.
  • Murrells Inlet Marshwalk restaurants
  • Conway National Bank offices are closed Wednesday and Thursday and will reopen Friday
  • HTC will be closed Thursday.
  • All seven branches of Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union are closed Thursday.

Government

  • Chapin Memorial Library
  • All City of Myrtle Beach parks and playgrounds, including both Barc Parcs.
  • Horry County Government offices, and all circuit, family and magistrates courts will close Thursday.
  • All Horry County Memorial Library locations will close Wednesday at 5 p.m.
  • Vereen Memorial Gardens
  • Socastee Recreation Park
  • J. Bryan Floyd Community Center is closing Thursday
  • NMB Aquatic & Fitness Center is closing Thursday

  • All Parks, including the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex, will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and remain closed Thursday.

  • All Georgetown County Recycling Centers closed at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The landfill closed at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

  • Y2K Daycare is closed and follows Horry County Schools closures.

Churches

  • Trinity Presbyterian Church in Surfside Beach is closed Thursday and Friday. Sunday services will be held.
