North Carolina man faces murder charge for shooting of teenager in Horry County
A North Carolina man is facing a murder charge for the shooting death of a teenager last year.
Dreshawn Stanley, 27, of Longwood, was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing Christian Hemingway, 18, in the Loris area in the early morning hours of Aug. 17, 2025.
Stanley was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Tuesday after being brought back to Horry County to face charges, which also includes possession of a deadly weapon during a violent crime.
Horry County Police officers responded to a shots fired call at Cedar Branch Road in the Loris area, according to an incident report. When they arrived, Hemingway was found with a gunshot wound. The officer began administering lifesaving measures, but Hemingway died from his injuries at a hospital.
Hemingway lived a short distance from the shooting, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.
Stanley was identified as the shooter from digital location data from the white Tesla he was driving and text messages from Stanley’s phone, according to an arrest warrant.
It is unclear why the shooting occurred.
