One person has died in a fatal two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle in Horry County.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to East Highway 9 in the Longs community area just before 6:30 p.m. on Monday after reports of a crash.

Myrtle Beach resident Michael Lang, 58, was driving the motorcycle heading North on East Highway 9 when a Nissan SUV was turning left on the highway. Lang “laid the bike down” to avoid colliding with the Nissan, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

He became separated from the motorcycle, and was then hit by the Nissan. Lang sustained critical injuries and was transported to Seacoast Hospital.

Lang died just after 7 p.m. Sunday night at the hospital due to injuries he sustained from the accident, according the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

There were no other reported injuries.

This is the third fatal collision in Horry County in a little over a week. Two Myrtle Beach residents died on May 17 in separate fatal collisions. One man attempted to cross North Kings Highway when a motorcycle struck him. The other man was driving a moped on 48th Avenue North when he collided with a vehicle.
