Coronavirus live updates June 28: Myrtle Beach area sees nearly 200 more COVID-19 cases
Coronavirus cases continued to surge in the Myrtle Beach area Sunday, according to the latest figures from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Horry County had 184 new cases as of Sunday, bringing the county’s total to 2,985 since mid-March. Horry County’s total deaths remained at 44.
In Georgetown County, there have been 435 confirmed cases and three deaths, according to DHEC.

So far this week, 1,056 have been announced in Horry County, records show. Last week, the county saw about 800 new cases. Horry County government has 29 employees who have tested positive for the virus and 50 tests that are pending.
The jump in cases in the Myrtle Beach and Horry County areas comes as we approach one of the biggest tourism weekends of the year. Fourth of July celebrations are set for a week from today.
Cases across South Carolina rose by 1,,371 on Sunday, bringing totals to 33,221 with 712 COVID-19 deaths. The state first eclipsed 30,000 cases Friday.
