CCMF alum says he tested positive for coronavirus after performing at Grand Strand venues
A Carolina Country Music Festival alum announced recently he’s tested positive for COVID-19 — and he might have contracted it in the Myrtle Beach area.
Darrell Harwood, a Salisbury, North Carolina resident, who performed in the 2015 and 2017 CCMF events in Myrtle Beach, made an announcement concerning his health on his personal Facebook page June 20.
“Wanted to let everyone know that my test results for Covid-19 came back positive. Its not the news I had hoped to hear but something I have to take very seriously,” he wrote. “I have to self quarantine for 14 days and all my shows will have to be cancelled within those two weeks to make sure everyone is safe.”
The country music artist assured friends and fans that he and his family are doing all right.
“My family and my health are fine, and we have no life threatening issues, but we will follow the doctors orders. I will let everyone know when we will be back up and running! Thank you once again for all your thoughts and prayers,” he posted on Facebook.
The day before, Harwood posted on his professional Facebook page that he had some kind of virus, though at the time he did not know it was coronavirus.
“I would like to thank everyone for all the great messages, comments and calls. All I can say at this point is I definitely have some kind of virus, not sure what it is yet until the test results come back. I’ve heard a lot of rumors floating around but this is just life, it’s the choice I made to work with the public, my wonderful fans. It’s not anyone’s fault it just comes with the job,” the post said.
“This will soon pass and I’ll let everyone know when the test results come in. I’m already on the other side of feeling better. All the guys in the band and their families are doing great. I love you all and this party is a long way from being over but I must follow a few guidelines for the next few days. I hope this helps clear the air,” said the post on his Facebook page, which has more than 11,000 followers.
Harwood performed at Captain Archie’s in Myrtle Beach on June 12 and Ducks Beach Club in North Myrtle Beach June 13, according to Facebook posts from Harwood and Ducks. Before that, he performed at Sycamore Lodge Campground in Richmond County, North Carolina, according to WRAL.
WRAL heard back from Harwood’s representative via email concerning the matter.
“I will relay to you that all proper means of communication have been made to ensure that any one that he was in contact with knows that he contracted COVID-19,” Harwood’s representative wrote in an email.
