City of Myrtle Beach cancels summer camps after employee tests positive for coronavirus

The City of Myrtle Beach has canceled its summer camps for the “foreseeable future” after an employee tested positive for coronavirus, according to a Facebook post from the parks, recreation and sports tourism department.

The city stated it was notified Saturday night of the positive test.

“The safety of our campers, patrons, and employees remains our number one priority. With the recent rise in cases of COVID-19 in our area and based upon the recommendation of the City of Myrtle Beach Infectious Disease Nurse, we feel that it is best if we cancel our summer camp programming for the foreseeable future,” the post states.

The city stated that the employee who tested positive has not been in the department building since June 19 and that no other staff members or campers have shown any COVID-19 symptoms thus far.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. These are trying times for us all, and we are here for you. Stay safe,” the Facebook post states.

Horry County Parks and Recreation announced June 7 that it was canceling all summer camps after staff members were exposed to a person who tested positive for the coronavirus.
