‘Foul odor’ leads to discovery of ‘skeleton remains’ in the woods

Several people saying they smelled a “foul odor” led Horry County police to discover skeletons in the woods in the Bucksville region of Horry County, according to a police report.

According to the report, the three people smelled the odor at 3 a.m. Saturday but didn’t want to investigate the smell until morning. The trio discovered the skeletal remains around 6:15 a.m. and called police, who located the remains under a bush.

The remains are believed to be those of a man and woman, according to Darris Fowler, Horry County deputy coroner.

The remains will be sent to the Medical University of South Carolina to identify the victims and determine their causes of death, Fowler said.

Horry County police say the arrests of 21-year-old Jordan Hodge and 28-year-old Kenneth Carlisle, 28 — who are both charged with murder in the case of a missing couple last seen in Conway — are related to the remains found in the woods.

Linda McAllister, 64, and William Clemons, 45, were reported missing July 1, according to the Conway Police Department. The couple was last seen in the area of Dewberry Street

Fowler advised Monday morning that the remains found in the Bucksville area have not yet been identified and will need to “undergo more testing before ID’s are confirmed.”

The testing may take up to several weeks before confirmation can be made and released, Fowler added.
