Horry County business closings and event cancellations due to Hurricane Idalia
Tropical Storm Idalia is predicted to bring heavy rain, flooding and high winds to the Myrtle Beach area beginning late Wednesday.
After making landfall in Florida, the South Carolina coast could be affected Wednesday into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
That could mean some in Horry County will postpone plans or cancel events in preparation for the severe weather this Labor Day weekend.

Myrtle Beach city facility closings for Wednesday and Thursday
UPDATED 2:23 p.m.
Myrtle Beach facilities, including the recreation centers, will close at 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Facebook post. Evening programs (youth sports, after-school care and evening recreation) are canceled.
Municipal court also closes at 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Clerk of Court’s Office reopens at 8 a.m. Thursday. Court session at 5 p.m. Thursday also is canceled.
Solid waste and recycling collection in Zone 4 (Thursday) will be delayed until Friday.
Public parks will close at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with reopening at 8 a.m. Thursday, assuming no clean-up is required, the post said.
Myrtle Beach SkyWheel closed because of storm

The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel is closed Wednesday due to inclement weather from Hurricane Idalia, according to a Facebook post.
“Our team will monitor the conditions and reopen as soon as they improve,” the post said.
Wells Fargo branches in Horry and Georgetown counties close

Wells Fargo branches in Georgetown and Horry counties closed at noon Wednesday due to Hurricane Idalia, a release said.
Wells Fargo is closely monitoring the storm, and decisions will be made on branch closures and openings as it progresses.
Branches could open later, close earlier or not open as circumstances dictate, the release said. Customers are encouraged to check www.wellsfargo.com for real-time information on specific branch closures and delayed openings
Georgetown County offices delay opening for Thursday

Georgetown County offices will open at noon Thursday due to Hurricane Idalia, a release said. Government offices and facilities will be open for normal business hours Wednesday.
The landfill will open at 10 a.m. Thursday and all recycling centers will open at noon, the release said.
HGTC to close early Wednesday, classes canceled on Thursday due to Hurricane Idalia

Horry-Georgetown Technical College will close at 3 p.m. Wednesday to allow employees and students to travel to their homes and secure their properties due to the impending weather related to Hurricane Idalia, according to a release.
The college will remain closed on Thursday, and resume operations on Friday.
“All classes and college-related activities, including online classes, internships, field trips, and clinicals are canceled,” according to a press release. “Accordingly, employees are not expected to report to campus or work remotely. Supervisors will work directly with employees to accommodate for time lost. HGTC will resume normal operations on Friday unless notified otherwise.”

Brookgreen Gardens closed to the public Wednesday

Brookgreen Gardens will be closed to the public starting at noon Wednesday. The gardens will monitor Hurricane Idalia’s progress and make a decision regarding Thursday’s opening, according to a release.

HORRY COUNTY GOVERNMENT FACILITIES TO CLOSE WEDNESDAY, DELAY OPENING THURSDAY
UPDATED 11:09 a.m.
Horry County Government facilities will close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and will open with a delay at 10 a.m. Thursday due to expected impacts from Hurricane Idalia, a release said.
All Horry County Parks & Recreation centers, ball fields and parks, as well as Horry County Memorial Library branches, will be closed beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Public safety departments will continue to provide critical services.
Myrtle Beach International Airport remains open but passengers should check the status of their flights with their airlines.

COAST RTA ANNOUNCED IT WILL ALTER BUS SERVICE WEDNESDAY
UPDATED 11:01 a.m.
Coast RTA will stop service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Georgetown County (Routes 14 and 16), according to a release sent Wednesday.
Service will operate until 8 p.m. Wednesday on all other routes. This constitutes full service on routes 1,2,3,7, 10, 15 North, 15 South and 17, the release said.
Entertainment Shuttles in both North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach will discontinue at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Coast RTA expects to resume service at 10 a.m. on Thursday, the release said. Information on service can be found at Ridetracker App, CoastRTA.com and social media for updates as conditions change.
MYRTLE’S MARKET CLOSES BECAUSE OF STORM CONDITIONS

Myrtle’s Market is closed Wednesday due to stormy conditions, according to the Myrtle Beach City Government Facebook page.
The market, at the corner of Mr. Joe White Avenue and Oak Street, offers vendors with locally-grown produce, baked goods, crafts and gifts. It’s generally open from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Wednesdays through Oct. 28.

Myrtle Beach Publix grocery stores will be closing early
UPDATED 9;45 a.m.
The seven Publix grocery stores located through the Grand Strand will be closing today at 3 p.m., according to a news release.
The stores are expected to reopen Thursday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m., depending on conditions.
“Please keep in mind, hours may be adjusted, and the status of individual stores is subject to change based on Hurricane Idalia’s track and projected impacts,” according to the news release.

Horry County Schools going virtual on Thursday ahead of Hurricane Idalia’s arrival
Horry County Schools is implementing a virtual learning plan on Aug. 31 as district offices close ahead of Hurricane Idalia’s expected impact on the region.
District leaders have also canceled all athletic and extracurricular activities through Thursday, although on campus practices could still take place on campuses depending on the weather.
Georgetown County School announces closures and plans as Hurricane Idalia approaches SC
Georgetown County Schools announced Tuesday afternoon out of an “abundance of caution” that schools will have an eLearning day on Thursday, Aug. 31.
All school will be closed and all after-school activities for Wednesday, August 30 have been canceled, according to the press release.
The district is approved for Elearing so Thursday will not have to be made up at a later date.
Opioid Awareness Day events postponed
The City of Myrtle Beach announced that two events planned for Opioid Awareness Day on Thursday have been postponed. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control had planned an education seminar on opioid and Narcan training from 3 to 4 p.m. and then Horry County Overdose Awareness Day that was scheduled for Thursday evening at Chapin Park. Both events will be rescheduled, but no date has been announced, according to a Facebook post.
The Quay Seafood Grille closes
The Quay Seafood Grille closed starting Tuesday, in preparation for Hurricane Idalia and will reopen after the storm has passed.
“The last hurricane, Hurricane Ian, was much worse than forecasted so we want to be prepared for the worst considering the full moon currently and flooding,” said the restaurant in a Facebook post. “We apologize for any inconvenience and will make another post when the storm has passed and the coast is clear.”

Grand opening of Georgetown business
Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce announced Monday that a grand opening/ribbon cutting for My Earthly Essentials, 123-5 King St., Georgetown, has been canceled because of potential inclement weather. The event was set for 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The celebration of the business, which offers holistic wellness, detox education and hands-on services, will be rescheduled.
