Georgetown County School announces closures and plans as Hurricane Idalia approaches SC
Georgetown County Schools announced Tuesday afternoon out of an “abundance of caution” that schools will have an eLearning day on Thursday, Aug. 31.
All school will be closed and all after-school activities for Wednesday, August 30 have been canceled, according to the press release.
The district is approved for Elearing so Thursday will not have to be made up at a later date.
“Pre-K - 2nd grade students will receive paper packets, and 3rd - 12th grade students will be assigned lessons through Google Classroom,” said the release. “Specific instructions will be communicated to students and parents from their students’ teachers and schools. All assignments must be completed and turned in within three school days Wednesday, Sept. 7 ... in order for a student to be marked present for the eLearning day.”
Athletic practices not requiring a bus will resume on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Games have been canceled or postponed.
The district expected Friday to be a normal school day but suggested checking back for updates.
