A school bus driver has been charged in a fatal accident that killed a 3-year-old girl, Michigan prosecutors said.

The toddler was crossing the street at an intersection in Hamtramck on July 16 when the 64-year-old bus driver made a turn and struck her, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release Oct. 18.

When first responders arrived, the 3-year-old girl was breathing, Hamtramck police said in a July 16 news release. She stopped breathing as she was being transported to the hospital, police said.

She died of her injuries at the hospital, according to prosecutors.

The driver, who drove Hamtramck Public Schools students, was charged with reckless driving causing death, according to prosecutors.

He was arraigned Oct. 10, and his bond was set at $10,000.

Flentroy is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 24.

Hamtramck is about a 6-mile drive north from downtown Detroit.
