A dad was teaching his 9-year-old son to drive when the child reversed the car and crashed into a pole across the street, Ohio police said.

The dad was intoxicated and was injured after the driving lesson went wrong, Toledo police said in a criminal complaint filed Oct. 6.

The child got into the driver’s seat on Oct. 6 and took instructions from his dad, police said. He was told to press one of the pedals, according to the complaint, but did not know which pedal was which.

Video posted by WTVG shows the 36-year-old standing in the door jamb of the driver’s side as the car quickly reversed out of the driveway, dragging and running him over.

He was taken to the hospital, and his condition is unknown, police told WTOL.

The parent was charged with endangering children by creating substantial risk to their health and safety, according to court records.

Another young child was standing near the vehicle when it crashed, police said.

The dad is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 16.
