A Grammy-nominated rapper was arrested in Horry County on Wednesday for domestic violence and malicious injury to personal property or animals.

Sidney Royel Selby, a 29-year-old rapper best known by his stage name Desiigner, went viral in early 2016 after his debut single “Panda” gained commercial and critical success.

Selby was arrested on Wednesday afternoon by the Horry County Police Department for one charge of second-degree domestic violence and three charges of malicious injury to personal property or animals.

A $1,500 bail was set for one of the charges of malicious injury to personal property or animals, but no bail was set for Selby’s other charges.

Previous domestic violence arrest

Wednesday’s arrest is the second time Selby has been arrested in Horry County this year, with both arrests involving domestic violence charges.

Selby was previously arrested in Horry County in March on one charge of third-degree domestic violence. The Horry County Sheriff’s Office arrested him on March 23, and he was released on a $1,500 bail the following day.

Police records from Selby’s March arrest allege that he engaged in a physical altercation with the mother of his child. Selby allegedly arrived at their home on March 2 angry, and threw car keys.

After the woman took the keys, Selby allegedly ripped the keys from her pants pocket, which caused her pants to tear. Selby then allegedly took their child and put them in their car seat. The mother of the child tried to intervene and talk to Selby, and he allegedly threw her to the ground in front of their home, according to the report.

The victim experienced minor scratches on her arm and lower back from the altercation, according to police records.

Indecent exposure conviction

Selby was convicted of indecent exposure on an aircraft in 2023. He exposed himself several times during a flight from Tokyo, Japan, to Minneapolis, Minnesota, despite being asked multiple times to stop. At one point during the flight, Selby exposed himself and masturbated.

Selby was sentenced to work 120 hours of community service, pay $5,000 and serve a two-year probation following the indecent exposure charge.
