A 43-year-old man who is a registered sex offender was arrested by North Myrtle Beach Police Tuesday after he was accused of stalking a 15-year-old.

Officers launched an investigation into Blaine Peter Zdybel after they received reports that Zdybel had been allegedly following a 15-year-old male who was riding a bike to and from work.

Following the investigation, North Myrtle Beach Police, in a post on Facebook, said Zdybel had been charged with stalking. On Wednesday morning, the J. Reuben Long Detention Center listed Zdybel as being charged with second-degree harassment.

North Myrtle Beach Police said in the post that the investigation found that on June 29, the 15-year-old boy was in the area of Highway 17 South riding his bicycle to work when Zdybel allegedly began following him in his vehicle. Once the boy arrived at work just after 10 a.m., police say Zdybel entered the business and interacted with him, made a purchase and then left the location.

Man allegedly follows the boy

After the 15-year-old left work that afternoon, Zdybel allegedly began following the boy on his bike. The boy then traveled through several side streets and parking lots to evade Zdybel before he found a North Myrtle Beach Fire Department employee and asked for help. Zdybel fled the area after seeing the firefighter, according to police.

The next day officers with Briarcliffe Acres Police Department in a coordinated effort conducted a traffic stop on Zdybel’s vehicle on Middle Gate Road in Myrtle Beach, and he was taken into custody.

The alleged incident is not Zdybel’s only recent run-in with law enforcement. On June 24, he was arrested by Conway Police Department and charged with voyeurism/violating a place of privacy and disobeying a police officer. He was released after paying a more than $4,000 bond.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have information or who may have had a similar encounter with Zdybel to contact the North Myrtle Beach Police Department at 843-280-5511. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous may submit tips to the North Myrtle Beach Tipline 843-447-9376.

Zdybel remains at J. Reuben Long Detention Center where he is being held without bail.
