Myrtle Beach police warrants reveal new details in Labor Day shooting near Ocean Boulevard
Arrest warrants from the Myrtle Beach police department detail how a man fired multiple shots near one of the busiest sections of Ocean Boulevard on Labor Day.
The man, 29-year-old Kyree Lavell Brown, was walking north on Ocean Boulevard at about midnight when he saw the victim in front of the University of Rock and Roll. The business is near the SkyWheel, Myrtle Beach Promenade and Gay Dolphin, all tourist areas with heavy foot traffic.
Brown, who is from Myrtle Beach, grabbed a gun from someone he was walking with and fired at the victim, police records said. He missed and ran across Ocean Boulevard towards Ripley’s Haunted House, firing as he fled, the documents said.
One of those stray bullets hit the front of Mad Myrtle Ice Creamery, shattering the storefront window. No one inside the restaurant was injured. On Wednesday a sheet of plywood covered the window. The owner of the business did not want to talk about the shooting when asked by a Sun News reporter.
Brown was arrested shortly after. He is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and discharging a weapon into a dwelling, according to jail records.
The person who Brown is accused of shooting at was not injured in the gunfire.
