Man accused of fatal Myrtle Beach area shooting arrested by police

Horry County police arrested a man accused of shooting and killing a person in the Forestbrook area.

Craig Lee Legette, 37, was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Tuesday. Police said he was wanted for murder in connection to an Aug. 26 shooting outside Myrtle Beach.

Horry County police went to Claypond Road near Bush Drive around 10 p.m. for the reported shooting. Officers found the victim in an SUV that was in a ditch on the side of the road.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Kentrell L. Ferguson, 32, of Myrtle Beach.

Police identified Legette as a suspect on Saturday and asked for the public’s help finding him. Officers said he was considered armed and dangerous.

Legette has a lengthy criminal history in Horry County including pleading guilty in December to duel/fighting with a deadly weapon. He was initally arrested in July 2019 andcharged with attempted murder in connection to a shooting in the Fountain Pointe apartment complex.

After Legette pleaded guilty, he was sentenced to three years probation. He was on active supervision at the time of the fatal shooting and wasn’t supposed to end his probation until 2022.
