Man charged in connection to Loris murder had 2018 manslaughter charge dropped months ago

The man accused of shooting and killing a man in the Loris area had manslaughter charges dropped four months ago.

Horry County police charged Laquandian Bromell, 28, with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection to Tuesday morning shooting.

Police say they found the victim dead along Cedar Branch Road around 4:20 a.m. Tuesday. The Horry County Coroner’s Office named Hedien Goodman, 22, of Loris, as the victim.

Bromell is currently being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bond.

In February, prosecutors dropped voluntary manslaughter and other charges against Bromell in connection to a 2018 shooting. Assistant Solicitor Seth Oskin said the charges were dropped because of Stand Your Ground defenses in the case.

Horry County police arrested Bromell in March 2018 in connection to a Freemont area shooting. In that shooting, Larry T. Wilson was shot and killed on Radius Road around 5:30 a.m.

At a bond hearing in connection to that shooting, Bromell’s attorney said his client graduated from Loris High School and attended The Citadel on a wrestling scholarship, his attorney said. Bromell didn’t finish college and worked as a barber at that time.

In 2019, police arrested Bromell for failure to stop for blue lights. That case remains active, and he was on $2,000 bond before this week’s alleged shooting.
