79-year-old charged in connection to shooting death of 84-year-old woman in Horry County
A 79-year-old man was charged in connection to the shooting death of an 84-year-old woman outside of Surfside Beach.
Carl Joseph Braun was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Friday evening. Horry police spokeswoman Mikalya Moskov confirmed officers arrested Braun in connection to a shooting earlier in the day. His exact charges have not been released and he is being held without bail.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the woman killed at Naomi Morris of Murrells Inlet on Saturday afternoon.
Horry County police went to an Edisto Court residence around 2:30 p.m. Friday for a reported shooting. The home is in The Lakes development off U.S. 17.
When police arrived, they found Morris with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to police radio traffic.
Morris later died from her injuries, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.
Braun has no criminal history in Horry County besides being cited for driving without a license in 2004. Police have not released a motive or details on what led to the shooting.
