19-year-old accused of murder in Ida Lane shooting that left one dead

A 19-year-old faces life in prison for shooting and killing a man on Ida Lane.

Horry County police announced Thursday evening that officers arrested Jerome Tyler Evans, of Conway, and charged him with murder. He is being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bond.

Officers went to Ida Lane in the Conway area around 1 a.m. Tuesday for the reported shooting. One person, later identified as Tybius Owens, was found dead in the home.

Owens had a gunshot wound to the chest, according to a police report. A witness was on the holding Owens and crying hysterically when police arrived.

The witness told police she was in the living room when she heard the gunshots and then saw Owens on the bedroom floor, according to the report. Other people were outside the home when the shooting happened.

The address listed on Evans’ court entry is the same as where the shooting happened. He has no other criminal history in Horry County.
