One person charged with murder in connection to fatal shooting near CCU campus

A 23-year-old man faces a murder charge in connection to a fatal shooting at a Conway area apartment complex.

Horry County police announced on Thursday that they arrested and charged Jaquan Tyrell Nichols, of Mullins, with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He is being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bond.

Nichols faces life in prison if convicted.

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. on Feb. 19 at the Coastal Villas apartments off S.C. Highway 544. The complex is near the Coastal Carolina University campus.

The Horry County Coroner’s office identified Timothy Davis, 29, as the victim of the murder.

Horry County police also charged Nichols with unlawful carrying of a handgun and possession of a stolen handgun after an traffic stop on Tuesday. The gun was reportedly stolen in Conway, according to a police report. Nichols was stopped around 5:30 on S.C. 544.
