What we know after a murder suspect was found dead in Horry County

A 19-year-old suspected of a murder in the Bucksport area is dead after an apparent suicide.

On Feb. 14, Horry County police went to the 1200 block of Bucksport Road for a report of a man shot. Officers found Matthew Frazier, 29, of Latta, dead from a gunshot wound.

Officers at the home said Frazier was covered in blood and had been dead for “a while.”

Nobody else was in the home where police found Frazier.

Horry County police spokeswoman Mikayla Moskova said on Friday that officers identified a suspect in the murder case. No charges are forthcoming because the suspect died soon after Frazier’s killing.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge identified Rakeem Fisher, 19, as the suspect who died. His cause of death was declared a suicide.

Fisher died Feb. 17 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Edge said.

Horry County police continue to investigate the Bucksport murder, and Moskov said there is no threat to the community.
