3 kids living in squalor at Myrtle Beach home, test positive for drugs, police say

Three children living in squalor in a Myrtle Beach home tested positive for opioids and meth, according to arrest warrants.

Myrtle Beach police charged the children’s parents, Steven Allen Schwartz and Brandi Lynn Schwartz, with unlawful neglect of a child. They were both released on $15,000 personal recognizance bonds, according to court data.

On Jan. 7, police officers went to a Myrtle Beach home - the address was redacted on the warrants - for a report of child neglect. The parents were both arrested on the 7600 block of North Ocean Boulevard over the weekend, according to police crime logs.

Three children were removed from the home and put into emergency custody because of “extreme unsanitary living conditions,” according to the warrants. The reports do not specify the exact hazards that were at the residence.

While in state custody, the three children each tested positive for drugs, according to the warrants.

Unlawful neglect of a child is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
