Police: Myrtle Beach woman charged after leaving 1-year-old home alone overnight

A Myrtle Beach woman is facing an unlawful neglect of a child charge after leaving her 1-year-old alone overnight and for hours at a time on New Year’s Day and Jan. 2, according to a police arrest warrant.

Multiple witness reported to police that they’d heard a baby crying for approximately 20-30 minutes in an apartment in the 1100 block of Oak Street, where Quendasha Elizabeth Gary and her 1-year-old live, the report states. A witness told police Gary showed up at the house after without the baby.

The witness entered the apartment with Gary and saw Gary come out of the bedroom and no one but the baby was in the apartment, according to the report. Police review surveillance footage that showed Gary left the 1-year-old alone from 8:26 p.m. Jan. 1 until 12:53 p.m. the following day. Police also found evidence showing Gary left the baby alone from 1:42 p.m. to 2:12 p.m. on Jan. 1 and again from 2:14 p.m. to 4:34 p.m. on Jan 2.

The witness said they didn’t see anyone else entering or leaving the apartment during those times, the report states.

Polie determined that Gary left the baby in unreasonable risk of harm and arrested and charged her.
