Conway police make arrest in years-old murder cold case
A man suspected of a string of business robberies in Conway is now being accused in a 2016 murder case.
On Thursday, Conway police charged Antonio Xavier Mccray with murder in connection to the killing of Jahalil Raheem Rashada Drayton. Drayton died on April 3, 2016, and police later classified the investigation as a cold case.
Drayton was found dead with a gunshot wound in the back room of the 5th Avenue home, according to a police report.
Conway police recently reopened the murder case, reviewed evidence and charged Mccray, according to the department.
Before being charged with murder, Mccray was being held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center on charges in connection to a string of robberies of Church Street businesses in late 2019.
On Nov. 27, 2019, Conway police responded to Carolina Payday Loans on Church Street for a reported armed robbery. The suspect entered the business, brandished a handgun and demanded money, police say. Officers previously named Mccray as a suspect in that robbery.
He was also charged in a previous robbery at the same store and Upfront Loans, also on Church Street, according to police.
