Horry County police conducting homicide investigation following shooting in Longs

A 49-year-old man is dead following a shooting in the Longs area Friday morning.

Horry County police went to a reported shooting around 4 a.m. in the 2000 block of Plantation Drive near S.C. Highway 905. The shooting happened in the Freemont neighborhood.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Tyrone Ford — also known as Tyrone Davis — dead, according to police and the Horry County Coroner’s Office. He died from a gunshot wound to a vital organ, causing mass trauma, the coroner’s office said Saturday.

Another person was injured in the shooting and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Horry County police have called the death a homicide. The department has not released any suspect information.

Police are still investigating the shooting and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 843-915-8477.
