Man charged with murder in Myrtle Beach missing person case asks for bond

A judge denied bond for a 32-year-old man accused of murder, which means the suspect will remain in jail as he awaits trail.

Darrell Land, of Blythewood, was in Horry County court on Friday. Chief Deputy Solicitor Scott Hixson confirmed the judge denied bond. Land has been held in J. Reuben Long Detention Center since his arrest as only a circuit court judge can set bond in murder cases.

Police charged Land with killing Arnold Bennett, 36. Land caused the death of Bennett, according to his arrest warrant, though it does not detail how Bennett was murdered. Police believe Bennett died at a Sandridge Drive residence in the Little River area on Aug. 4. It was the same area police later found human remains.

Bennett was first reported missing to Myrtle Beach police on Aug. 7. Days later, Horry County police joined the investigation into his disappearance.

The remains were found on Aug. 30 along a dirt road near Sandridge Drive.

Land faces life in prison if convicted.
