Here’s the latest on an infant injured in alleged abuse at a Myrtle Beach daycare
A 7-month-old continues to receive treatment following alleged abuse at a Myrtle Beach daycare center.
Myrtle Beach police Cpl. Thomas Vest said the infant is still in treatment, though officers didn’t know if it was at a hospital or a private medical facility.
On Nov. 1, officers responded to Busy Bodies Child Care Center, 306 S.C. Highway 15, for an unresponsive child. At that time, the child was taken to the hospital in “critical condition,” police said.
The abuse happened while Lona Thomas was feeding the baby, officials said.
Myrtle Beach officers charged Thomas with infliction of great bodily injury upon a child. She faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. She remains free on $7,000 bond.
The South Carolina Department of Social Services is aware of the incident and continues to investigate, Spokeswoman Pam Bryant said. She declined further comment.
Thomas said at a bond hearing that she has watched children for more than 20 years and has no criminal history. Officials from Busy Bodies Childcare Center did not respond in time for this report.
There have been no filings in Thomas’ case since her arrest, according to online court records.
