SC motorcyclist killed in police chase identified by Horry County coroner
A motoryclist killed during a chase with South Carolina Highway Patrol was identified by the coroner.
Kegan Morrison, 22, of Longs, died after crashing his motorcycle near the intersection of Robert Grissom Parkway and 38th Avenue in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, according to an email from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
Willard said that speed was a factor in the crash as Morrison was allegedly attempting to evade police.
The Horry County Sheriff’s Office reported on Facebook that it is investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 2:10 a.m.
According to preliminary information, the South Carolina Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop a motorcycle traveling on Highway 31. The operator of the motorcycle allegedly failed to pull over, resulting in a pursuit that concluded in a crash on Robert Grissom Parkway, the post said.
Due to the high rate of speed, the motorcyclist lost control and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash, the post said.
This incident remains under investigation.
