A motorcyclist died Wednesday after a chase involving a South Carolina Highway Patrol officer.

The Horry County Sheriff’s Office reported on Facebook that it is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 2:10 a.m. on Robert Grissom Parkway at 38th Avenue in Myrtle Beach.

According to preliminary information, the South Carolina Highway Patrol officer attempted to stop a motorcycle traveling on Highway 31. The operator of the motorcycle failed to pull over, resulting in a pursuit that concluded in a crash on Robert Grissom Parkway, the post said.

Due to the high rate of speed, the motorcyclist lost control and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash, the post said.

This incident remains under investigation.
