These seven SC beaches are among the South’s best. Two are along the Grand Strand
Those planning for summer vacation are ready to shake the winter coats and don those bathing suits as they head South to the beach.
The South has some of the best and most beautiful beaches in the U.S. Maybe we are being a little biased.
But we aren’t too far off as Southern Living just released its top 20 best beach destinations in the South for 2026 and seven South Carolina beaches made the list, including two along the Grand Strand.
Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island were among the selected beaches that stretch from Florida, Texas, Georgia and Virginia.
An online survey of its readers determined coastal favorites across the South. Here are what cities in the Palmetto state made the list.
No. 4, Hilton Head Island
This resort town in Beaufort County offers undisturbed shorelines, bike trails, championship golf courses and great restaurants such as the legendary Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks, according to the magazine. The barrier island is located about 20 miles from Savannah, Georgia.
No. 7, Isle of Palms
Just outside the historic city of Charleston, the island has become a favorite weekend getaway for city dwellers as well as those looking for a vacation destination. There are ample public beaches and waterfront restaurants.
No. 8, Myrtle Beach
This iconic coastal destination sits along 60 miles of beachfront called the Grand Strand. It has long been a tourist destination offering walks along its famed boardwalk, open-air bars and ice cream shops, restaurants and watching sunsets set over the Atlantic Ocean.
No. 11, Folly Beach
The magazine described this beach as a great example of an East Coast surf town “with an easygoing attitude that prioritizes surf swells over timelines.” The six miles of beaches are perfect for surfing, as well as shelling or just sitting.
No. 14, Kiawah Island
This island is described as a “bucket-list destination” for golfers. The barrier island also offers 30 miles of paved biking trails, wildlife and unspoiled sand, according to the magazine.
No. 16, Pawleys Island
This quiet community that describes itself as the “Hammock Coast” is about 25 miles from Myrtle Beach and offers not only beautiful beaches, but also marches, tidal creeks and estuaries around the island. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from as well as entertainment once your beach day is done.
No. 17, Sullivan’s Island
Just 10 miles from the busy city of Charleston is this beach that offers 2.5 miles of sandy shore along the Atlantic Ocean. The beach remains uncrowded through most of the year and offers shopping and a vibrant food scene, according to the magazine.
