Surf shop along Grand Strand site of major film featuring well-known actress
A longtime surf shop is the location for a new thriller movie being filmed along the Grand Strand.
Village Surf Shoppe in Garden City was closed on March 3 and again on Monday for filming that is taking place inside the store.
Not much has been released about the major production, including the name.
It has been reported that Tania Raymonde, who has starred in such TV shows as “Goliath” and “Lost,” is one of the stars in the film.
The film has been described as a thriller which takes place at the surf shop. One of the characters apparently owns the surf shop where the drama takes place.
Film scouts reached out to owners Kelly Richards and Brian Campbell over the winter about filming at the shop, Campbell said. Campbell couldn’t provide any details about the movie because of production agreements, he said.
On Monday morning, crews with cameras and equipment could be seen inside and outside the surf shop while a scene was being filmed. Vehicles along Atlantic Avenue slowed down to try and see what was taking place.
White vans would occasionally pull up near the shop and drop off what appeared to be actors and film staff.
A producer with the movie did say that filming would continue through the last week of March. It is not clear when the film is expected to be released.
A message left with the South Carolina Film Commission was not immediately returned.
The Village Surf Shoppe is located just a short distance from Garden City beach. The iconic shop, with its VW bus out front, has been in business since 1969.
