One dead in four-vehicle crash on Horry County highway. What to know
An Horry County car crash involving four cars on Tuesday left one person dead and two injured. The coroner’s office has now named the person who was killed.
Kathryn Bhirdo, 65, of North Myrtle Beach died after another car collided with hers, according to an email from Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of Highway 22 in between Highway 90 and Highway 31 around 6:17 p.m., as Myrtle Beach-bound lanes were blocked by the four-vehicle crash. One of the vehicles was overturned, trapping someone inside. Three people were transported to a hospital with injuries, including Bhirdo who was ultimately pronounced dead.
The crash involved a 2018 Jeep Wrangler, a 2002 Suzuki Vitara, a 2019 Nissan Versa, and a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado. The drivers of the Jeep and the Nissan were injured, the Suzuki driver, Bhirdo, was killed and the Chevrolet driver was uninjured, according to an email sent Wednesday by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The Suzuki, Nissan and Silverado were stopped in traffic on SC-22 eastbound. The Jeep was traveling eastbound on SC-22, and struck the Suzuki, causing the Suzuki to strike the Nissan and the Nissan to strike the Silverado in a pileup. The Jeep then overturned, leading to extraction operations.
