Here are your chances to speak out, learn more about major SC highway extension
A major traffic improvement project is coming to South Carolina, and residents will have the chance to learn more about it and offer their comments.
The SC-22 Extension project will create a new roadway extending from Highway 501 near Aynor to the Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet area. The project aims to improve traffic congestion, hurricane evacuation and access to services throughout the region.
The $1.56 billion project will begin construction in 2030 and be open to traffic in 2035.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled a series of meetings to be held in various locations, as well as a pre-recorded online presentation. Participants at each of these meetings will received the same information, regardless of which meeting they attend, and will have the opportunity to share comments in person or online.
The pre-recorded presentation will be made available on the project website on Monday, Feb. 23. The in-person meetings will take place as follows:
- Monday, March 2 at James Frazier Community Center, 1370 Bucksport Road, Bucksport, SC.
- Tuesday, March 3 at South Strand Recreation Center, 9650 Scipio Lane, Myrtle Beach, SC.
- Wednesday, March 4 at Horry County Government and Justice Center/Horry County Council, Multipurpose Room B&C, 1301 2nd Avenue, Conway, SC.
Each of the meetings will be held drop-in style from 4-6 p.m.
