Man pleads guilty to North Myrtle Beach hotel killing, stashing body in vehicle

A Georgia man pleaded guilty to the 2023 murder of a woman in a North Myrtle Beach hotel, a month before his scheduled trial. He will now serve 30 years in prison for the killing.

Bornold Alastair Eberhart, 44, of Decatur, Ga., left his home state with the victim, Kristen Laymon, and came to South Carolina for a vacation at the Wyndham Hotel, according to a release from the Solicitor’s office. The pair went out the night they arrived, and when they returned, they could be seen on surveillance footage fighting in their car. Eventually, Laymon opened the door to the car while it was in motion.

Soon after, she exited the car and took the elevator back to their room. It was the last time she was seen alive.

About 10 minutes after Laymon went back to the room, Eberhart followed suit. The following day, Eberhart was recorded wearing a black hoodie and gloves, rolling Laymon’s body out of the hotel and into the trunk of the vehicle. Authorities later discovered blood in the trunk.

Using cell phone evidence, investigators found that Eberhart texted Laymon between the last time she was seen alive and when he was seen transporting her body. In the messages, he said he had not seen her since the previous night, and he would have to find a ride back to Georgia if she did not return the vehicle, according to the Solicitor’s office.

Eberhart could be seen transporting the body less than 12 hours later. He later went back to Georgia, where he disposed of the body. Laymon’s body was recovered six months later.

Georgia and North Myrtle Beach detectives investigated Laymon’s disappearance for four months.
