Man killed in Horry Co. road rage shooting remembered as a dad with a ‘kind heart’
A South Carolina man who was killed in an Horry County road rage shooting Tuesday is being remembered as a father who had “a kind heart and a presence that will never be forgotten.”
Paul Greenwood, 33, a Nichols resident, died in the shooting, the coroner’s office confirmed Tuesday afternoon. Greenwood was involved in a multi-vehicle crash earlier that day, which lead to a deadly altercation with another driver.
One person, Elijaih Thurman Taylor, was taken into custody following the shooting. On Wednesday, Taylor was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime if not also sentenced to life without parole or death, according to online arrest records.
Taylor remains in custody without bond.
A witness involved in the crash, which included at least three cars, said she saw one of the drivers who was hit become upset and exchange heated words with the driver who allegedly crashed into him before shooting.
The shooting took place just after 8 a.m. at 9072 Highway 90.
Friends remember shooting victim for constant smile, generosity
Jr. Perez, who was friends with Greenwood for almost 20 years, described him as “the life of the party.” Perez said his friend’s legacy lies in his cheerful personality, as well as his loves for his trucks, hard work and making others smile.
“Basically, you never see a frown on him,” Perez told The Sun News in a phone interview Wednesday afternoon. “He’s always loved to make people smile.”
He also recalled Greenwood’s “go, go, go” energy, which always kept spirits high.
Perez’s girlfriend, Alexis Holden, reminisced about Greenwood’s sunny personality and generosity toward others, calling him “the sweetest person you’d ever meet,” and a great father to his three daughters.
“He was such an amazing friend,” she said about Greenwood. “He’d do anything for anyone.”
Holden said Greenwood’s positivity impacted many lives around him, and his “contagious” laugh and “beautiful” smile always left a lasting impression.
Paul Greenwood remembered on social media, GoFundMe
Since his death, Greenwood’s friends and family have flooded social media with posts remembering him. A GoFundMe organized by Caitlyn Harrison, a family member, describes Greenwood as a “loving father, brother, son and friend” who had “a kind heart and a presence that will never be forgotten.” The fundraiser’s goal is to raise $4,500 for funeral and memorial expenses, and has already surpassed more than half of that goal.
According to Greenwood’s Facebook account, he was in a relationship and worked as an equipment operator at D&S Site Work, a Myrtle Beach excavating contractor. D&S Site Work confirmed that Greenwood had worked for them, but only for a few weeks, and was not technically an employee.
Greenwood’s Facebook page also says that he worked with heavy excavation equipment and did site work for more than ten years.
A Facebook user who identified himself as Greenwood’s younger brother shared that his kids will always remember their uncle Paul.
Several friends and family members of Greenwood did not immediately respond to The Sun News’ requests for comment on Wednesday morning.
The Sun News has requested reports, warrants and more information related to the shooting.
