Myrtle Beach’s Broadway at the Beach will be getting a new sweet spot

Following a slew of closures at Broadway at the Beach, the popular Myrtle Beach destination will soon have a new sweet spot for guests to enjoy.

Broadway Spokesperson Jay Rodriguez said a new “candy concept” storefront will be opening in the building that formerly housed Chuck & Duck’s Sports Grill, which closed in September. While Rodriguez couldn’t provide further details, plans submitted to the city in December call for a shop named iScream Candy.

The shop, which sells candy and ice cream, will open this spring, according to the store’s website.

While the building has been undergoing renovations over the last few weeks, the store’s opening comes after several closures were announced at the popular tourist destination.

It was announced last month that Key West Grill will also close after 25 years in operation, as would Yankee Candle. In addition, Liberty Tap Room announced last month its Broadway at the Beach location will close.

Apparel store Tsunami Surf Shop also closed its doors on Dec. 31 after 10 years in operation at Broadway at the Beach.

However, with closure comes change.

While a new bridge is being built near the WonderWorks attraction, a major portion of the Broadway at the Beach property is under construction after the movie theater was torn down last year. The former theater location will soon house Alabama-based seafood restaurant The Hangout, which will also serve as an events space.

Additionally, city records show applications for new Key West retail and office buildings.
