A new wholesale retail chain is coming to the Myrtle Beach area. Here’s what we know.

The Grande Dunes area in Myrtle Beach will be home to a new wholesale retailer this spring.

Plans submitted by Grande Dunes Development, Co. calls for the operation of a US Foods Chef’s Store located at 970 Cipriana Drive near Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. The building, which formerly housed Lowes Foods which closed in August, is currently under construction with the front facade and interior being renovated.

US Foods Chef’s Store is a wholesale warehouse that caters to restaurants and the general public selling an array of restaurant and cooking supplies from cookware to restaurant grade stoves along with fresh produce, meats, seafood dairy and more in the variety and volume desired. Along with restaurateurs, the public is welcome to shop with no membership required.

US Foods Vice President Josh Waters told The Sun News that Chef’s Stores will be a valued resource for the growing culinary community in Myrtle Beach.

“We are excited to bring Chef’s Store to local restaurant operators and culinary professionals in and around Myrtle Beach,” Waters said. “Chef’s Store is specifically designed for food industry professionals to quickly and conveniently replenish ingredients at wholesale prices.”

The 35,000 square-foot shopping space will include a 1,500 square-foot kitchen space designed to explore new food and menu concepts and sample new products, a 6,000 square-foot walk-in refrigerator for fresh produce, meat and dairy, 3,000 square feet of freezer space. A Stay Cool program would also provide complimentary frozen gel packs to transport perishables.

The company also intends to employ approximately 40 local residents to work in the wholesale store.

This would be the retailer’s seventh national location. South Carolina already hosts two Chef’s Stores in Charleston and Columbia.
