Horry County’s Salvation Army is behind on its bucket fundraiser. Here’s how you can help
The Salvation Army of Horry County is behind on its goal to reach $200,000 through the bucket fundraising campaign.
But there is still time to donate.
Currently, $125,000 has been raised since the fundraising campaign began in November through Dec. 17.
Carl Melton, a captain with the Salvation Army, said there will be folks stationed outside of stores through Christmas Eve to collect donations. You can also donate online at the charity’s website.
Across the nation, Melton said, Salvation Army chapters are behind on donations. He attributes this to how the calendar fell this year, shortening the fundraising window.
The money helps fund the Christmas Angel program that gives toys to kids who might not be able to afford it. Melton said it also goes toward year-round funding needs like social services, utilities, food pantries, youth summer camps and all the charity work the Salvation Army does.
While the Salvation Army wants to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with folks, Melton said they give their aid to anyone who needs it.
“If you need some food, come and we will give you some food,” he said.
Even if the charity doesn’t reach its goal, Melton is personally grateful to Horry County residents for being so generous each Christmas season.
“Horry County is generous. They’ve been so generous with the Angel Tree program and donating money. I’d personally like to say thank you,” Melton said.
