What kind of weather do you want Santa to bring? Your Myrtle Beach holiday forecast

Forecasters say Myrtle Beach will likely see some rain ahead of Christmas, which could impact holiday travel plans.

The area may receive 2 to 3 inches of rainfall starting over the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, North Carolina. The development of a “strong coastal low system” will bring wet and windy conditions to the region between Sunday and Tuesday, the NWS reports.

The Myrtle Beach and Conway areas could experience wind gusts up to 28 mph, according to the NWS.

Moderate to heavy rainfall, rough surf and minor coastal flooding is expected, the weather service reports.

Take caution if you plan to drive in the rain and wind. The NWS Wilmington says wind could blow down tree branches and roadways may be slick and have ponding water and low-lying flooding.

Temperatures Friday night were forecast to drop into the upper 30s ahead of a mostly cloudy day with a high in the 50s Saturday.

Here are the high and low temperatures expected in Myrtle Beach over the weekend and into the week:

  • Friday: High 52, low 37
  • Saturday: High 53, low 42
  • Sunday: High 56, low 50
  • Monday: High 60, low 48
