Coronavirus live updates July 5: Myrtle Beach area sees more than 150 new COVID-19 cases

Coronavirus cases continued to skyrocket in the Myrtle Beach area Sunday, according to the latest figures from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Horry County had 159 new cases as of Sunday, bringing the county’s total to 4,480 since mid-March. Horry County’s death total rose by one with the total now at 54. The death was a middle-aged individual.

In Georgetown County, there have been 658 confirmed cases and five deaths.

Health officials have announced 1,495 cases of the coronavirus in Horry County this week. The county saw its record-high amount of cases Saturday with 358.

Cases of the virus rose across South Carolina by 1,457 Sunday and the total went up to 44,717. There have been 813 S.C. deaths due to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, according to DHEC.
