Coronavirus live updates June 19: Horry County again sees more than 100 new cases
Coronavirus cases continue to surge daily as health officials report 137 more cases in Horry County on Friday afternoon.
Newly announced cases brings the county’s total to 1,697 since mid-March, according to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. Horry County has had 39 deaths due to the coronavirus.
Four new deaths in Horry County were announced on Friday. Three deaths were elderly person and one was a middle-aged person.

New cases announced daily by DHEC have been in the triple digits this week in Horry County. So far, the county has seen 566 coronavirus cases this week.
A Friday news release from DHEC lists 115 new cases, but officials have said the online map shows the most up-to-date numbers. The map shows a 137 increase in cases from 1,560 on Wednesday to 1,697 as of Friday afternoon.
The jump in cases in the Myrtle Beach and Horry County areas coincides with one of the biggest tourist weekends of the year, and forecasters say there is no sign of a slowing down of cases along the Grand Strand.
In Georgetown County, cases have climbed to 227 and there have been 3 deaths reported due to the virus, according to DHEC.
Cases across South Carolina have reached 22,608 with 639 virus-related deaths, DHEC reports.
South Carolina has preformed more than 321,000 coronavirus tests, with 31,806 returning positive results, according to DHEC data. The state has a recovery rate of 79 percent.
