South Carolina deems Myrtle Beach area strip club ‘essential,’ business set for reopening
The state deemed a Myrtle Beach area strip club “essential,” which is a move that allows it to reopen.
Though officials said the reopening is only to serve food and drink and not for adult entertainment.
Alex Clark, director of marketing and communications for the S.C. Department of Commerce, said Friday that in its request to be deemed an essential business Thee DollHouse stated it was temporarily suspending its license for adult entertainment and was reopening as a food and beverage establishment.
Department data lists Back Bay Group/Crazy Horse, which does business as Thee Dollhouse, as an essential business as of Wednesday.
Thee Dollhouse posted on its Facebook page that it planned to open for Happy Hour at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Thee Dollhouse Managing Partner Brent Clark declined to comment on the circumstances in relation to the reopening.
Hundreds of businesses were forced to close by government mandate during the COVID-19 pandemic. While many retail and attractions have reopened, despite coronavirus numbers increasing, not all businesses have been given the go-ahead.
Adult entertainment venues, theaters and nightclubs are still listed on the SC Department of Commerce website as non-essential businesses by executive order from Gov. Henry McMaster.
But, businesses could seek to have their designation changed from non-essential to essential. The move allows them to reopen and resume activities. Thee Dollhouse was granted the change.
The Carolina Opry, The Treasure Club and Medieval Times were all deemed non-essential by the state earlier this month.
