Coronavirus live updates June 8: Myrtle Beach area sees another record in daily cases
Cases of the coronavirus surpassed 670 in the Myrtle Beach area as of Monday afternoon setting a new daily record for the fourth day in a row, according to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Health officials announced 59 cases in Horry County, bringing the total to 676. There have been 32 COVID-19 deaths in the county, according to DHEC figured updated on Monday.
There was one new death in Horry County announced on Monday. It was an elderly person.
Cases of the virus reached a record high in Horry County last week, with more than 175 newly announced cases, according to DHEC records.
In Georgetown County, cases have reached 94 and 3 virus-related deaths have been reported.
The number of cases across South Carolina have climbed to 14,800, DHEC reports. The state has had 557 virus deaths.
DHEC officials say they have preformed more than 246,000 COVID-19 tests across the state, with about 9 percent testing positive. The state does not release testing data by county. The state has a recovery rate of 83 percent.
