Horry County cancels summer camps after staff members were exposed to COVID-19 carrier
Horry County Parks and Recreation announced Sunday that it has canceled all summer camps, which were scheduled to begin Monday, after staff members were exposed to a person who tested positive for the coronavirus.
“For the safety of everyone involved, we are canceling all of the Parks and Recreation summer camps scheduled to begin tomorrow,” HCPR stated in a Facebook post. “We apologize for the short notice. We were notified of the exposure late Saturday and assessed the impacts to our programs, making the decision to cancel all of our summer camp programs for the remainder of the summer.”
The organization said that those who are registered for summer camps will be contacted by staff members and issued a full refund.
“We know this is disappointing news for our campers and families. We are anxious to get back to normal but we will not compromise our standards of safety for our campers,” the Facebook post states. “We appreciate your continued patience during this difficult time.”
HCPR advised people to follow its Facebook page and horrycounty.org for updates.
Last month, local municipalities laid out plans on how they would handle summer camps. So far, those are expected to go on as scheduled.
