Horry County Schools confirms third Nutrition Services employee with coronavirus

Horry County Schools has confirmed a third employee with coronavirus in as many days.

The latest HCS COVID-19 case, reported in an email Friday, is the second Nutrition Services employee who was working at Socastee Elementary to test positive.

The school’s free lunch pick-up site was moved to Socastee High School earlier this week as a result of the first employee testing positive.

The employee confirmed Friday last reported to work April 2, and they were pre-screened by the school nurse and did not show any symptoms. This employee was one of the workers directed to self-quarantine after the initial employee tested positive, according to school spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier.

The other COVID-19 case was an employee working at South Conway Elementary, but that site has remained operational due to the length of time between the employee’s last day and the positive test result.

The district noted in its email that it cannot release additional information about any of the employees or their current health status.

HCS students began spring break Friday, but the district is continuing to offer free breakfast and lunch pick-up during the week. The district has been closed by the governor’s executive order since March 16 and will remain closed until at least the end of April.
